Concepts

Meaning/ Ideas for Narrative

A series of planes compose this painting. The first is that of the linen closet which is shrouded in light hinting that there is a window also in this plane. The two figures compose the next plane, with the washing basket behind them giving them depth. The little girl is staggered behind the women in line with the beginning of the stairs which lead up to the next floor. Frames make up the next plane as both the window and the door lead to the next room. These two elements frame the next plane as the sky and exterior can be seen through these two openings. The canal and opposing buildings give depth of field to the scene.
